How to prepare yourself for Diablo 2: Resurrected

Once you reach a certain level of gear it is possible to increase the difficulty.

While preparing for Diablo II: Resurrected can be simpler than other ARPGs however, it is difficult to understand the details. It is enough to play the game in order to gear up. There are no microtransactions or real Money Auction Houses. The things you kill fall gear, occasionally it's an upgrade, and you keep it. Simple.

Once you reach a certain level of gear it is possible to increase the difficulty. Let's say you've played the game on Normal difficulty and built up gear. The standard expectation is that the game will now allow you to play on Nightmare difficulty. By the time that you've cleared Nightmare you'll be equipped enough for you to advance to Hell difficulty. However, beyond that straightforward progression, there are more details and nuance to consider. You could, for instance, consider Normal mode farming prior to moving it to Nightmare. Magic Find is a gear stat that can increase the rate of drop for items that are magical in Diablo 2.

Let's talk about how to gear up for Diablo 2 -- how to do it, and when to start doing it with a serious attitude.

Magic Find is your potential fatal foe

Start by building your Magic Find set as soon as you can, but don't equip it immediately. You'll want to wait until you've completed playing on Normal and Normal difficulty, as you'll gain more gear on every difficulty, and certain mobs and bosses are more likely to have better equipment that they could drop than others. If you want a detailed breakdown of the way Magic Find works and what it is that the Treasure Class of specific mobs is, there's one that was posted on the old Diablo 2 forums still preserved on the internet that provides a detailed explanation which we're unable to replicate here, but the gist of the concept is straightforward enough that Magic Find gear trades away attributes like offensive power and various resistors in order to increase how much equipment of green and higher quality drops.

If you can get 100% Magic Find, you have basically doubled the odds of obtaining gear that will magically drop. While there are tiers and diminishing returns that every mob has to follow, the magic loot drops can be increased by going up to 500 percent Magic Find. A mob will usually drop a magical item for every 100 kills. This number increases to 2 for 100 with 100% Magic Find, and up to 5 for 100 with 500 percent Magic Find. These are just a few examples, but again, if you're really interested in the nuts and bolts of all of this, and how Magic Find affects the quality of equipment that goes out on the market, you can find out more on it here.

Just keep in mind that Magic Find gives and takes away -- it offers you a better chance at more valuable items appearing however it will cost you in stats you'll require to get through particularly on more difficult levels. You might be able to farm Nightmare mode Act 1 for loot, however, if you start Hell with your complete MF set might end up in the midst of Blood Raven's feet.

Kill those demons over and over

Let's not forget about the other. Here are some helpful tips to help you get going:

Complete both Nightmare and Normal levels as fast as you can to begin farming bosses on those difficulty levels. Getting done with Normal unlocks Nightmare which allows you to take on bosses like Mephisto, Diablo or Baal on Normal difficulty for a greater chance to get the gear you'll need for Nightmare for instance.

The process of farming bosses is to kill them over and over again until they drop items you'd like to. You can do this by starting the game from scratch, then going to the waypoint closest to the boss, battling to it and killing it, and then beginning a new game in the event that the item you were hoping to get was not dropped.

As you get better equipment, continue to acquire Magic Find gear. In Normal, building a MF set is crucial as well as you may wish to run Act 1 farming on minibosses like the Countess, who drops runes.

There are certain areas where you'll want to engage in farming runs on a regular basis. Act 2 has the tombs, Act 3 has lower Kurast and then after that you'll likely concentrate your efforts on the Council, Mephisto and Diablo before proceeding to farm Baal. You'll probably be able to farm them all on Nightmare in preparation for Hell since farming them on Normal is less likely of obtaining the equipment you want.

You also want to complete Normal and Nightmare as fast as you can, as you have to get through a difficulty level before you can progress to the Secret Cow Level on that difficulty, and it's an excellent place to farm for drops and runes. Do not take out the Cow King in order to farm the Secret Cow Level.

This is how you gear for Diablo 2. Kill everything, but don't go to the grave (at at least, try to avoid it) and wear the clothes with as much MF as you can survive in while working.
